The record tops the UK albums chart this week, beating Sam Smith, Little Mix and Ed Sheeran to number one. It’s Gallagher’s third number one with the High Flying Birds and his tenth chart-topping album overall.
‘Who Built the Moon?’ shifted 78,000 equivalent units, with 76% of sales coming from physical releases. However, Noel’s record sold less in its first week than brother Liam’s solo debut ‘As You Were’, which topped the chart in October with combined sales of 103,000.
“I’d like to say thanks for giving it a chance,” Noel has told OfficialCharts.com of the news. “I was convinced from the outset that the people who bought it would love it – not like it, they’d love it – and that seems to be the case.”
“I’m on a better winning streak than Man City are at the minute. I’m actually on a par with Pep Guardiola. I’m a bit of a wizard, I often thought I was. I’ll see you at the top of the charts – this is where I fucking live.”
NME‘s Mark Beaumont writes of Noel’s new LP: “It’s Noel’s freewheeling solo freedom and return-to-mega-form song-writing that makes this amongst the albums of the year. Noel shoots for ‘…The Moon’, and strikes bullseye.”
Meanwhile, the UK singles chart this week is topped once again by Camila Cabello’s ‘Havana’, featuring Young Thug.
